WWW Wednesday: 13th February 2019

It’s WWW Wednesday time! This weekly meme is hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words – if you’d like to join in too, all you have to do is answer the three questions below, pop your blog link on Sam’s weekly post in the comments and have a little look at what everyone else is reading!

So, this week…

WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?

Very excitingly, the new Jess Kidd book, Things in Jars, recently popped onto my NetGalley shelf and as a big fan of her previous two novels, Himself and The Hoarder, I couldn’t wait to start reading this. Thankfully, it has not so far let me down: Bridie Devine is a private detective, but in 1863 this was a very unusual job for a woman. She is looking for a kidnapped child, who is more than a little strange. It has intrigue, ghosts and as per Kidd’s other books, is written in such a charming, lyrical style.

WHAT HAVE YOU RECENTLY READ?

In my previous WWW post, I mentioned I was reading The Corset by Laura Purcell and at the 1/3 of the way through point was loving it. I’ve now finished it and OH MY GOD, it was amazing. To quote from my review of it: ‘I am not being hyperbolic when I say that I adored every single page of this book. It contained all the elements I personally love in a story; intrigue around the lead characters, a murder mystery, unexpected emotional twists and an ending that leaves you closing the book wishing there were more pages to read.’ As you might have picked up on, I highly recommend it!

WHAT WILL YOU READ NEXT?

I’m not actually sure… I’m having a case of TBR trouble at the moment (#bookwormproblems), as in it’s risen to insane levels and I just don’t know which book to read or listen to next! Looking through my list, I’m drawn to non-fiction, so may well go for Becoming by Michelle Obama. I think she’s a very inspiring woman and would love to know more about her life and what makes her tick.

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week, let me know below!

    1. I know what you mean, I don’t usually read straight-forward memoirs (about childhood etc), but I think Michelle’s story is so interesting and not many women become First Lady!

    1. True! But I always do that thing of starting a book, then feeling I should have actually gone with a different one from my TBR!

  1. I actually started reading The Hoarder (my copy is entitled Mr. Flood’s Last Resort). I set it aside for other books, but I’ll be going back to it. I am fascinated by hoarding!

I am also reading Becoming, a little at a time in between other books. Her writing is awesome and pulls me right into her life.

Enjoy your books and your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. Hope you enjoy The Hoarder! Although the focus becomes less about the hoarding, Jess Kidd sets her scenes so well you can always imagine the clutter of things!

I’m going to audiobook Becoming, so Michelle reads me her story – i like the idea of that.

Have a great reading week too! x

    1. Yes, think I’ve decided to go the audiobook route with Becoming, feels like a good way to immerse myself in her story! I haven’t read Roots or A Tree Grows – will keep an eye out for your reviews of them!
