WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?
It recently felt like I couldn’t scroll through Twitter without seeing someone rave about The Flower Girls by Alice Clark-Platts, so I thought I’d see for myself how good it is. And so far I can report that, yes, it’s good. I only started it a few days ago and I’m almost finished, I can’t stop reading it! Be warned, it does have a pretty grizzly theme: child killers, but the suspense level is insanely high.
WHAT HAVE YOU RECENTLY READ?
I’ve just finished the mind-bending twist of a book that was The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton and it was quite unlike anything I’ve read. I have to say, speaking of books with a lot of publicity, I did fall for the hype with this one, everyone just seemed to be reading it and when it won the Best Debut Novel award at the Costa Book Awards, I figured so many people couldn’t be wrong. And they’re not, but this is by no means a perfect novel and maybe has one or two more holes in its complex plot than it intended to?
WHAT WILL YOU READ NEXT?
Well, my TBR stack is looking no smaller these days, but I think I’m going to go for My Enemy’s Cherry Tree. I was kindly sent this debut novel by Taiwanese author Wang Ting-Kuo and love the sound of it: A man who comes from poverty, finds his dream love. When she vanishes without a trace, he sets up a small café in her favourite spot on the edge of the South China Sea, hoping she’ll return. Instead, he is confronted by the man he suspects may be responsible for everything he has suffered. So begins a story of desire and betrayal set against the tumultuous first decade of Taiwan’s 21st Century.

I’m not a fan of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, I was quite disappointed in the end. I’ll be interested for your final opinion of The Flower Girls too. Fab post 🙂

Yes, know what you mean about Seven Deaths, left me a touch bewildered! I’ve just finished The Flower Girls and it did not go where I thought it would, just composing my thoughts for a review!

I had a break from blog tours in February but seem to have signed up for (almost) everything going in March so my reading schedule is packed this month. Therefore, although it’s entirely my own fault, I’m envious of you being in the position to choose a book from your TBR pile that takes your fancy.

😊 Funny you should say that I actually just realised I have to read a book for a blog tour, so am cracking on with that now! Then it will be onto reducing my TBR pile!

LOVE a grizzly theme so Flower Girls is for me I think! I saw the publishers do a tutorial on how to press flowers like the cover too!
I also have a copy of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and maybe I need to bump that up my TBR!

Honestly, I couldn’t put it down! Love it when publishers do things like that, cover art is so interesting. I’d be intrigued to hear your thoughts on Seven Deaths 😊

It’s a true page-turner, I couldn’t put it down! Although it has a far more unsettling ending than I was expecting!

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is on everyone’s favorite. I gave in to the hype but did not start it yet, they say you need to concentrate on reading to enjoy it to the fullest extend.

Yes, I would agree with that! Concentration (and a lot of post-it notes!) were needed for me to keep track of the plot!

I thought The Flower Girls was excellent, hope you enjoy the rest of it, glad to hear you’re enjoying it so far. Seven Deaths is very complex, isn’t it, I did have to concentrate a lot when I read it, but I did enjoy it.
