Welcome to my August WWW Wednesday. This is a weekly meme (I do it monthly though) hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words. If you’re curious about what other people are reading right now too, join in! All you have to do is answer the three bookish questions below and pop your blog link on Sam’s weekly post in the comments.
So, this week…
/ WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?
I’ve listened to such a good string of audiobooks recently and my latest one is shaping up to also be excellent. It’s Everything You Ever Wanted by Louiza Sauma, the plot summary:
You wake up. You go to work. You don’t go outside for twelve hours at a time. You have strategy meetings about how to use hashtags. After work you order expensive drink after expensive drink until you’re so blackout drunk you can’t remember the circumstances which have led you to waking up in bed with your colleague. The next day you stay in bed until the afternoon, scrolling through your social media feeds and wondering why everyone else seems to be achieving so much.
Then you hear about Life on Nyx, a programme that allows 100 lucky winners the chance to escape it all, move to another planet and establish a new way of life. One with meaning and purpose. One without Instagram and online dating. There’s one caveat: if you go, you can never come back.
It’s got a very dry, knowing tone and I love it. Can’t wait to see how this story turns out!
/ WHAT HAVE YOU RECENTLY READ?
How Do You Like Me Now? by Holly Bourne. This was a fantastic, contemporary story that shone a spotlight on how society treats women in their 30s verses women in their 20s. It also take a cutting look at social media and all the fakeness that surrounds it.
/ WHAT WILL YOU READ NEXT?
An exciting book just pinged onto my NetGalley shelf: The Confession, it’s the new novel from Jessie Burton and as I loved The Miniaturist and The Muse, I’m more than a little bit excited about this!
I’d love to know what you’re reading this week, let me know below.
I have never been able to get into audiobooks but a lot of posts I have been reading today seem to feature them…maybe I’ll give them another go! Everything you ever wanted sounds so interesting, I’m putting it on my wishlist! 🙂

Everything You Ever Wanted sounds intriguing. Makes me want to know exactly why you can never come back – what’s waiting on that other planet? https://teripolen.com/2019/08/14/www-wednesday-what-am-i-reading-amreading-31/

Everything You Ever Wanted doesn’t sound like a book I’d normally read, but that blurb! Oh my gosh, it sounds sooo good. Happy reading!

It’s a bit of a different read for me too, thought it might be a bit sci-fi, but it really isn’t (a plus for me!) It’s brilliant so far 😊

I hadn’t heard about The Confession. I hope it can live up to Burton’s earlier books!

Yes, me too! It’s a slow burner so far but she knows how to craft a good story, so I’m intrigued to see where it goes.

How do you like me now? seems awesome, I love good social criticism in novels. Is it available on Net Galley?

Yes, I’m being drawn to these kind of novels recently – It’s been out for a while, so not sure if it would still be on there, but you’d probably find it in the library!
