Maybe it was all the sunshine, or a general holiday feel (despite not actually going on holiday) but I took a relaxed – some might even say lazy – approach to my reading this month and, to be honest, it was lovely. Reading when I felt like it rather than being conscious of having to get a book finished for some reason was refreshing and made me realise that book blogging has changed my approach to reading. Five adult novels and one children’s book make up my August mix and by some (subconscious?) twist of fate, all five novels have contemporary setting and pack a punch, with both their determined female characters and brilliant plots. I’m hard pushed to single out one as my favourite but if you made me, I’d say In a the Deep End – so filthy and so funny. A must-read.
Although The Truth Pixie is for children, I recommend all adults pick this up too; a wonderful little story about how sometimes bad things that we have no control over happen – life is not all sunshine and flowers – and that’s OK. That’s, literally, life!
I also wrote a little about The Importance of the Opening Sentence , am I the only one who places weight on it? Maybe even decides if I’m going to commit to the book because of it?

I actually realized today that my reading changed for August and in a good way. I have one book I’m reading for a readalong but everything else has been picked up when I felt like it or selected because I just needed my reading to feel like a time to just get away and not I have to read this because I need to review it. Glad you had a good month of reading and enjoyed what you decide to pick up
