What I Read in June 2022

I totally jinxed myself in May when I wrote about having another fabulous reading month run. June just crashed and burned! I’m not even sure why (although general overwhelm at the state of the world might be playing a part) but my concentration wasn’t here this month.

I found myself starting at least 6 books and not finishing them. Not that they are all DNFs – I can see that it’s definitely my lack of focus and not the story, per se, that’s been the issue, so will come back to some of them at another time.

Most of the books listed below were from that glorious reading period in May, so my July reviews are looking a little lean at this point…

As the saying goes, it’s not about quantity, but quality and I really enjoyed the above list (well, most of it!) I’ll highlight a few of my favourites.

Double Booked is a funny and clever story of a woman coming out as bisexual that was just a delight from start to finish. The Swimmer is an enticing short story by Graham Norton (I’m such a fan of his novels, absolutely give them a try if you haven’t already) and The House of Fortune is the sequel to Jessie Burton’s smash-hit The Miniaturist. It picks up 18 years after that book and tells us what Nella has been up to. Very exciting indeed.

Well, fingers crossed for a more successful July in terms of reading. I have just finished an excellent book, so hoping that’s a sign my mojo is creeping back… will report next month!
