So, this week…

What are you currently reading?

One Little Lie by Sam Carrington. I felt in the mood for a psychological thriller, so had a little look through my TBR stack and this fit the bill! Told from the POV of Alice, Deborah (Alice’s son murdered Deborah’s son) and psychologist Connie who finds herself thrust into the situation. So far, this story has me gripped – multi-layered, facts are revealed at a tantalising pace and I can’t guess the ending, which is always a bonus!

What did you recently finish reading?

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. She is a Japanese author and this is a darkly comic, utterly addictive little gem: A wonderfully off-beat tale about a woman whom society deems ‘not normal’, simply because she makes life choices that go against the grain. It is a cutting commentary of society’s (whatever society you happen to be living in) need to make everyone fall in line and persecute those who don’t. A very intriguing read.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker is waiting on my Netgalley shelf and I’ve seen only good things said about it, so very keen to start turning those pages. It is the famous story of the Trojan War told from the point of view of the women. This is a theme that appeals to me greatly right now, as I’ve just been reading about it in another recent historical fiction book, The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory. That tells the story of Henry VIII’s fourth and fifth wives (Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard) in their words, not the misogynist view of their situation that is presented in many history books. My review of that one is coming soon!
