WWW Wednesday: 19th December 2018

Welcome my last WWW Wednesday of 2018! This is a weekly meme but I’m doing it monthly, as that works better for me at the moment. Hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words, if you’d like to join in, just answer the three questions below and pop your blog link on Sam’s weekly post in the comments.

So, this week…

WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?

Vox by Christina Dalcher. This is a dystopian read very much in the vein of The Handmaid’s Tale. Vox gives us a version of America where, under the new Pure Movement regime, women (and girls) can only say 100 words a day; any more and they get electric shocks. I’m about halfway through and it’s brilliant. It’s a great blend of evocative emotions and action, I can’t wait to see how it ends.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

The epic story of Circe by Madeline Miller. Circe is one of the lesser-known Greek Gods and Miller has imagined things from her point of view. Myths you’ve heard of are woven into the story and Madeline Miller really has a brilliant ability to make you care about these mythical characters – it is a truly captivating read, I loved it!

WHAT WILL YOU READ NEXT?

Well, I’ve put Melmoth by Sarah Perry on my Christmas wishlist, so I’m hoping it will be that one! I loved her previous book – The Essex Serpent – so have high hopes for Melmoth.

I’d love to know what you’re reading this week and have a very Merry Christmas!

  1. Glad you’re enjoying Vox. I have both Circe and Melmoth on my wishlist although I’m not expecting either as Christmas presents as my family have given up buying me books (‘Don’t know what you’ve already read’, ‘Don”t you have enough books already?’, ‘You haven’t read the one I gave you last year yet!’).

    1. I know, that’s the problem! Or you get books as presents you’ve already read! I ask for specific ones, it’s the only way!
