What I Read in October 2023

My reading habits have changed a little as the year has gone on and as October ends, I realise I definitely haven’t read as much as I would have in previous months. Sometimes life plays a part in that but as this blog allows me to reflect on my reading habits through the years, I think there are always some months where I slump a little more than others.

That’s not to say I don’t read at all – just that the pace is different. I’ve also got much better at not putting pressure on myself about that – if I don’t read a book a week, it really doesn’t matter! I’ve discovered that that’s a far more enjoyable way for me to approach my reading and blogging. Now, onto this month’s reads!

My October Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie

/ The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard

/ Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld

/ The Christmas Appeal by Janice Hallett

These were four excellent books! I was in need of a cosy, comfort read in October and Agatha Christie is my go-to author for that. After all, nothing says comfort like a book with ‘murder’ in the title.

The Nothing Man was a brilliant thriller by new-to-me Irish author Catherine Ryan Howard, I’m really looking forward to my next read from her. I have The Trap ready and waiting.

My other two reads were a bit jollier – The Christmas Appeal is a short (novella length) follow up to the smash-hit The Appeal – it picks up where that book left off, so if you were a fan, give it a read. And Romantic Comedy absolutely lives up to its title, it’s such a funny read pitched in the dry, witty era of rom-com. It’s a feel-good book I’m recommending to everyone.

As it’s October, if you are looking for a more spooky read around this time of year, I also shared my favourite 5 Gothic novels, one of my most-loved genres, let me know if you find anything you like on the list.

Until next month, happy reading!
