What I Read in January 2024

Well, that felt like a long month, didn’t it? The only plus side of the seemingly 300 days of January was that I set my reading intentions for 2024 onto a good path as I got into a really good groove and enjoyed some great books to kick off the year.

January book reviews

My January Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ The Favourite by Rosemary Hennigan

/ Unravelling Oliver by Liz Nugent

/ Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

/ Green Dot by Madeleine Gray

/ Brutally Honest by Melanie Brown

Green Dot, The Favourite and Unravelling Oliver were my three fiction reads – from a story told from the POV of a mistress (Green Dot) to a woman seeking revenge for her dead sister, but in a dark academia way (The Favourite) to the ‘whydunnit’ story of psychological thriller, Unravelling Oliver, they were all brilliant reads.

My non-fiction read for January was Brutally Honest by Spice Girl, Mel B and it’s not the memoir you are expecting. She was in an abusive relationship for a decade and this is her account of what happened and how she left it. She has been through so much, this is such an emotional and important read.

New for 2024

In exciting news, I have decided to add podcast reviews to my blog for 2024. Over the last year I’ve been listening to them more and more and they are such a great way of consuming stories – mainly non-fiction in terms of the ones I listen to. The first podcast I shared – Ghost Story – honestly blew me away. A multi-layered family saga, told in such an engaging way. Yes, there is a ghost link, too!

I also set myself a reading challenge – to read the Puffin classics, or at least the 10 that feature in this box set. That’s why Peter Pan is in my above reading list, it was my first book of the challenge. I had mixed feelings on it…

Until next month, happy reading!
