Summer reading is the best reading. Sunny days and long evenings lend themselves to taking time to yourself and getting lost in a fantastic book. There are some addictive new summer 2024 books being released very soon, so here’s five I love – either having read or will be reading very soon…
5 new summer 2024 books for your TBR list

All Fours by Miranda July
/ Published 16th May 2024
I had previously read The First Bad Man by Miranda July and loved her off-beat, lyrical tone. That’s very much present here, as we meet an artist in her 40s who despite having a loving husband and child and on paper should be happy, has hit peri-menopause and has found her life thrown upside down by her own hormones and new view on life. Both funny and poignant. I really enjoyed All Fours.
Hey, Zoey by Sarah Crossan
/ Published 23rd May 2024
OK so this was a brilliant read! I love a book that gives a premise I’ve never read before and Hey, Zoey delivered. Dolores discovers that her husband has bought himself an AI sex doll and is understandably, a bit devastated. What she didn’t envision was befriending that sex doll and learning a lot about herself and what she wants from life while this happens. Beautifully written and throws up some very interesting questions.
The Cracked Mirror by Chris Brookmyre
/ Published 18th July 2024
You know when you get the rug pulled from under you in the very best way? That’s what it’s like reading The Cracked Mirror. The premise drew me in – Chris Brookmyre brings two well-known types of detectives together – the tough American cop who’s not afraid to break the rules and is steeped in tragedy and the English older lady who can out-wit the police every time. They unexpectedly join forces to solve the case of some mysterious murders.
While reading this, there were some moments I felt were a bit unbelievable but then when the reveal happens, it all makes sense. Love a book that defies expectations!

Middle of the Night by Riley Sagar
/ Published 2nd July 2024
I only recently discovered author Riley Sager, seeing The Only One Left everywhere, I gave it whirl and loved it, just such a great page-turner. So I’m very much looking forward to Middle of the Night, another thriller, this time set in New York and focusing on a man’s childhood best-friend disappearing and the repercussions from that. Sounds like a perfect pool-side read to me.
And So I Roar by Abi Daré
/ Published 8th August 2024
While summer reading I also like to try new authors, And So I Roar sounds brilliant. Set in Nigeria and written by Abi Daré, it sounds like a feminist read to me as it looks at both mother/daughter relationships and secrets and how girls must strive the make the futures they want for themselves, especially when society hasn’t been set up to make that happen. Really looking forward to delving into this one.
So there you go, my 5 new summer 2024 books for your TBR – which one will you read first?
