What I Read in May 2024

May sees my least amount of book reviews in a long time, but it’s not something I’m stressing about or seeing as a negative thing. It’s essentially my new norm.

A lot has changed since I started this blog and I’m finding that although I still might read quite a few books per month, it’s having the time to sit down and review them that I’m finding trickier. I used to spend Sundays writing reviews but now with the social schedule of two children to layer in, that time has been cut! Still though, it means you know the ones I do write up are going to be great.

Sweetness in the Skin by Ishi Robinson

/ Hey, Zoey by Sarah Crossan

/ All Fours by Miranda July

So, yes, as mentioned, my trio of May reads were all fantastic. Quality over quantity all the way. First up, the supper-charming Sweetness in the Skin, a debut novel from Ishi Robinson is a coming-of-age novel set in Jamaica. Pumkin is the lead character and as she faces a lot of challenges, you’re with her all the way.

Sarah Crossan and Miranda July are authors I’ve read before, they both have unique writing tones that make them stand out to me and their new books did not disappoint. In Hey, Zoey Dolores befriends her husband’s AI sex doll. Trust me, you won’t have read a book with this theme and it’s all written in such a poignant, clever way, you’ll really enjoy it!

All Fours is life from the POV of a peri-menopausal woman, offbeat, random, funny and emotional. Another excellent read to add to your TBR.

I also shared a review of a podcast I’m enjoying – Dish – if you want something light-hearted, funny and with some tasty food chat, give it a go!

Until next month, happy reading!
