What I Read in September 2024

I’ve been blogging a little less through the summer, so this is an August and September roundup – a nice mix of audiobook, psychological thriller and a mystery that’s part of the great Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson. I really enjoy picking these up in between other books and seeing what Jackson’s up to now. It’s like paying a visit to an old friend.

Now, onto my reads…

The House of Hidden Meanings by RuPaul

Death at the Sanatorium by Ragnar Jónasson

What a Way to Go by Bella Mackie

When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson

I listened to the fabulous RuPaul narrate his life story in The House of Hidden Meanings. He brought so much emotion and warmth to it, highly recommend both the book – he’s had a fascinating life – and listening to him tell it.

I also had two psychological thrillers in the mix. Death at the Sanatorium was my first Icelandic read and brought all the drama you would expect from a book set in such a classic, isolated, spooky setting. What a Way to Go was my second from Bella Mackie, if you loved her dry, witty tone in How to Kill Your Family then you’ll like this one too. Both were highly enjoyable!

My fourth read as the above mentioned instalment in the Jackson Brody series. It’s the 3rd book and Jackson’s story is as readable and un-guessable as ever. He’s growing on me as a main character too. Having had initial reservations when I first met him (although loving the story so continuing the series) he is becoming more rounded to me and I can see why he acts in certain ways that didn’t initially make sense to me.

Until next month, happy reading!
