What I Read in June 2025

Half way through the year, already! June brought a nice blend of genres – I’m still getting through the ACOTAR series, but do like to splice reading the romantasy books with other genres too – for variety and pace.

My reads this month were all perfect books to pick up for holiday, or relaxing afternoons in summer sunshine. They were…

My June Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

/ Thirst Trap by Gráinne O’Hare

/ What Have You Done? by Shari Lapena

/ Love, Sex & Frankenstein by Caroline Lea

If I had to pick, my favourite read of the month was Love, Sex & Frankenstein by the wonderful Caroline Lea. It’s a fictional imagining of a real event – Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley and Lord Byron going to Lake Geneva in 1816, where – legend has it – one night they challenged each other to write a ghost story and Mary got her idea for Frankenstein. So well written, emotive and thrilling, all steeped in real-life fact, this was such a great read.

To be fair, I also really enjoyed Thirst Trap – a contemporary story of friendship set in Belfast. It was wry, funny and little heart-breaking, the perfect combination.

While I didn’t love What Have You Done? – my thriller for the month – Shari Lapena’s writing style is very easy to read, so you do keep turning those pages, which does put it in that holiday-read territory.

Rounding off with A Court of Mist and Fury, the second book in the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas. And pleased to report that I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first book (which I found very average and struggled to see what the hype was) so am starting to get into the characters and story more. Fingers crossed book three continues in this vein! I know so many people love this series, so have high hopes!

Until next month, happy reading!
