What I Read in July 2025

July was a slower reading month for me. Or maybe it’s just that I’m reading longer books thanks to my scattering of Romantasy reads (that notoriously love a 500+ page story), so can’t clock in quite as many books per month – either way, I have four reads for July – one being an audiobook I just happened to finish but had been listening to for a while. / A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

Yes, two ACOTAR books are in there as A Court of Frost and Starlight is the novella of the series, mainly due to the fact that nothing happens in it. I found it to be so lacklustre, I’m not invested enough in the series to want this kind of book from it – all filler, no killer.

A Court of Wings and Ruin was enjoyable though – high drama set to the backdrop of war with Hybern. Overall, I’m still not sure how I feel about ACOTAR, definitely not sucked into it like I was the Empyrean series but there’s only one more published book left (although Sarah J. Maas has now confirmed she has written book six) so I feel I should finish the series, having gotten this far.

My two other reads were great – The Bullet That Missed is a Thursday Murder Club story – so you know exactly what you’re getting (cosy mystery with clever one liners and a satisfying plot) and The Wedding People was an unexpected, highly emotional story of hope and human connection. I started it not sure if it was for me and couldn’t put it down – recommend!
