What I Read in August 2025

Summer brought about a slight shift in my reading pattern as for the first time (possibly ever?) non-fiction reads outnumber fiction in my monthly roundup. I mean yes, I did actually only read one fiction book due to it being a massive 700+ pages but still, the stat stands.

So what were these non-fiction reads that sparked my interest, well…

My August Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ This Much is True by Miriam Margolyes

/ Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams

/ A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

My non-fiction reads were both memoirs, but they couldn’t have been more different. The first was the wonderfully entertaining life story of actress Miriam Margolyes. Her warm voice comes through loud and clear and she has led such an interesting life. Shooting to viral fame for having no filter on talkshows (with hilarious consequences) I’m so glad I read This Much is True as I learnt just how accomplished she is as an actress.

I followed this up with Careless People, Sarah Wynn-Williams’ account of her years (2011-2017) working at Facebook. Put it this way – if you think your workplace is toxic, give this a read. She had unparalleled insight to working with the senior leadership at Facebook, including Mark Zuckerberg and in this book, she does not hold back. She was treated very unfairly and this is her account of what really happened / is happening.

My fiction read was the final book in the ACOTAR series, A Court of Silver Flames and when I say THIS was the book I was waiting for, by far the best in the series, I am not exaggerating. It switched the narrative POV from Feyre and Rhysand (of the previous books) to Nesta and Cassian and they are, now, my absolute favourite characters of the series.

Three great reads I highly recommend – until next month, happy reading!
