/ WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?

Very excited to be reading The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris. I’ve heard only great things about this thriller set in the world of publishing and so far, it’s gripped me!

/ WHAT HAVE YOU RECENTLY READ?

The Metal Heart by Caroline Lea. What a beautiful, emotional slice of historical fiction this was! I love this genre – the blending of facts and real events with the poetic licence of fiction really captivates me.

Mix in Caroline Lea’s amazing ability to weave a heart-wrenchingly emotive love story – both the romantic kind and the one between sisters – and I’m hooked! Featuring twin sisters on a remote Scottish island, this is a great, atmospheric story.

/ WHAT WILL YOU READ NEXT?

I love the sound of Snowflake the debut novel by Irish author Louise Nealon. It’s an observational, coming-of-age story and I do like those:

‘Eighteen-year-old Debbie White lives on a dairy farm with her mother, Maeve, and her uncle, Billy. Billy sleeps out in a caravan in the garden with a bottle of whiskey and the stars overhead for company. Maeve spends her days recording her dreams, which she believes to be prophecies.

This world is Debbie’s normal, but she is about to step into life as a student at Trinity College in Dublin. As she navigates between sophisticated new friends and the family bubble, things begin to unravel. Maeve’s eccentricity tilts into something darker, while Billy’s drinking gets worse. Debbie struggles to cope with the weirdest, most difficult parts of herself, her family and her small life. But the fierce love of the White family is never in doubt, and Debbie discovers that even the oddest of families are places of safety.’
