What I Read in July 2023

Well, we’re over half way through 2023 now and as I reflect on July’s books, it really was a truly peak month for reading. I enjoyed all of my 6 books so much! All fiction reads (I am still upping my non-fiction, those are coming as I’m still in the process of reading), but the themes covered were very varied. Let’s take a closer look…

My July Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ The Villa by Rachel Hawkins

/ The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue

/ Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

/ Bad Men by Julie Mae Cohen

/ Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz

/ Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister

So Our Wives Under the Sea takes the special prize of possibly my favourite read of the year so far – yes, it’s that good! Such a beautiful, emotional, other-worldly book – you MUST add it to your TBR if you love unique, amazing stories.

My other reads were great too – from a psychological thriller inspired by the life of Mary Shelley (The Villa) to a sharp, funny, clever coming-of-age story set in Cork (The Rachel Incident) to a tongue-in-cheek take on getting revenge on idiot men (Bad Men) to an epic Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery (Moonflower Murders) and rounding up with a page-turning thriller from Gillian McAllister (Just Another Missing Person) – would highly recommend them all!

I also added to my children’s book review series, sharing books I loved reading to my boys – 5 children’s picture books with great confidence-building messages. I think these books (and other like them) do such an important job of conveying more complex emotions to small children.

Until next month, happy reading!
