7 new 2024 books I can’t wait to read

I like to kick off the year with a look over all the new and upcoming fiction releases, to help plan my reading and really get me excited for new books in 2024.

This selection are for the first few months of the year January – April, then I’ll look at amazing new summer reading books a bit closer to the time.

7 new 2024 books I can’t wait to read

Normal Women by Ainslie Hogarth
/ Published 4th January 2024

Technically already published but I’m including it here as it just sounds so good and I haven’t read it yet! Ever since I became a mother, books that tackle motherhood as a theme are always going to spark my interest. Normal Women is described as a send-up on modern-day mothering, so I’m very into it.

Green Dot by Madeleine Gray
/ Published 1st February 2024

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this contemporary tale of millennial Hera and her navigating through life. I love writing that is witty, dry, on the nose and relatable and feel this story will be just that.

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams
/ Published 6th February 2024

I loved Seven Days in June by Tia Williams so am very much looking forward to her new novel which seems to be in a similar vein of a joyful and sexy love story.

Dominoes by Phoebe McIntosh
/ Published 7th March 2024

I have actually already read Dominoes and it’s excellent. It covers a heavy topic: generational trauma derived from Layla discovering that her ancestors were possibly owned by the family of her fiancé. Through Layla, we have a warm, real, rounded character and we go on the journey with her. I found Dominoes to be interesting, engaging and exploring a topic I hadn’t read a novel about before.

Day One by Abigail Dean
/ Published 28th March 2024

It’s been a few years since I’ve read a novel by Abigail Dean but Girl A was brilliant, so looking forward to Day One. It has a sensitive theme – a school shooting. I’ve never read a novel with this kind of story before, so I think it might be a difficult read in places, but we’ll see.

A Lesson in Cruelty by Harriet Tyce
/ Published 11th April 2024

Harriet Tyce is another great psychological thriller writer. A Lesson in Cruelty follows three women who are all in search of the ‘perfect life’ but someone else thinks differently and is out to teach them a lesson. Yes, it does sound ambiguous and full of revenge. I am a sucker for these kind of books, especially when the author has form (Blood Orange was amazing!)

The Amendments by Niamh Mulvey
/ Published 18th April 2024

My family is Irish so I love stories by Irish authors, set in Ireland that weave the countries history into the tale too. This is the backdrop for The Amendments and it’s described as a story of mother’s and daughters too – another big tick for me. Think this will be an emotional but brilliant read.

What do you think? Will you be reading any of these books this year? What are your most anticipated reads – let me know!
