Love Bombed – BBC Sounds – Podcast review

As Valentine’s Day puts a focus on love and relationships this month, I’m sharing this addictive podcast with a focus on a highly unusual relationship – Love Bombed. Now, Love Bombed is a love story, but one with a very sinister tale at its core. It’s a look at the darker side of love, where one person can be manipulated and tricked by the other – with very serious consequences.

An explosive love bomb

Presented by Vicky Pattinson (from Geordie Shore, winner of I’m a Celeb jungle in 2015 fame) as this is a story from Newcastle, her home town.

Throughout the 8 episodes, Vicky meets Coleen, a woman now in her early 40s who recounts her 2.5 year relationship (2014 – 2017) with James Scott.

James tells Coleen he is a firefighter, meaning he is often called away last minute and has an irregular shift pattern. She’s never quite sure where he’s going to be – convenient for a man who actually isn’t who he says he is at all…

Love Bombed speaks to Coleen and her friends and family and the story of just what James (not his real name, you won’t be surprised to hear) did to not only Coleen but her sister, is just awful.

The thing that’s most shocking is the way he has receipts for all his lies. He is so devious and planned that although at one point Coleen says she feel stupid for falling for it, when you hear it all laid out, you can see how crafty and meticulous he has been.

Crime comes in all shapes and sizes and Love Bombed serves as a warning that there are some sinister people out there, who will go as far as creating entire relationships for their own gain.

Each episode is only around 15 minutes so you can whizz through them all and have a good podcast binge. Honestly, you’re going to want to – you just won’t believe what you hear!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
