What I Read in April 2024

April was a good reading month for me! I found my pace and got really good at mood-reading – as in selecting books that really fit with however I was feeling that day / week. Getting stricter on DNFing books that aren’t right for the time definitely helps a lot too. Just a more satisfying reading experience all round, really. Onto the books!

My April Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ The Gathering by C.J. Tudor

/ My Favourite Mistake by Marian Keyes

/ The Only One Left by Riley Sager

/ Whale Fall by Elizabeth O’Connor

/ Strong Female Character by Fern Brady

It was quite a mix for my April reads and I have to say, all brilliant books! I was very excited to read the brand new Marian Keyes novel, My Favourite Mistake that – if you’re a fan will be thrilled to hear – is in the Walsh sister series, with a focus on Anna’s life now. It was classic Marian – funny, warm and with a message too, loved it!

The Gathering and The Only One Left are both fantastic thrillers – the first feature everyone’s favourite undead monster, the vampire (or vampyre) as they’re referred to in the book, but the twist is that this is a world where vampyres are just part of society and its about how humans have to live with them – as well a murder to solve too.

The Only One Left is one of the most concise gothic thrillers you will ever read, probably. It has all the conventions you expect, but written in a great way that keeps you hooked. This was my first read by Riley Sager, so will definitely be devouring more soon.

Whale Fall was such a haunting, delicate read set on a remote Welsh island and Strong Female Character was my non-fiction read for the month, it’s comedian Fern Brady’s memoir and in it she shares how she got diagnosed with Autism in her 30s and she struggled her whole life pre-diagnosis, being wildly dismissed and misunderstood. A truly insightful read.

Until next month, happy reading!
