What I Read in June 2024

A few days late but here’s my wrap-up of my June reads! We’re in true summer read territory now and I’m embracing that by enjoying my lazy reading pace.

This approach also means I’m so much better at DNFing if the book I’m reading at the time isn’t matching my mood. I find this to be a highly enjoyable way to read, and has resulted in these 4 amazing books…

My June Book Reviews:

(Click on book title for my full review.)

/ How to Solve Murders Like a Lady by Hannah Dolby

/ The Burial Plot by Elizabeth Macneal

/ The Cracked Mirror by Chris Brookmyre

/ Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Coryell

It was quite the cross section in terms of genres this month, from two historical fiction reads from opposite sides of the tone range – The Burial Plot (dark and mysterious) and How to Solve Murders Like a Lady (whimsical and fun) to a twisted romance blended with psychological thriller in Love Letters to a Serial Killer (tongue in cheek is the overall tone there) to something that tipped into crime surrealism with The Cracked Mirror.

The latter by Chris Brookmyre was a whirlwind of a read, with multiple plots, stories in stories and an ending I guarantee you won’t see coming! Definitely one to try if you’re after something a little different to read.

I also posted about one of my favourite podcasts, Sentimental Garbage as I was lucky enough to see it live in June at the Hackney Empire in London. Podcast host (and author) Caroline O’Donoghue was joined by the wonderful presenter and author Dawn O’Porter to chat all things topical and it was truly a fun-filled evening.

I’m always on the lookout for great book recommendations, so let me know in the comments if you have one – until next month, happy reading!
