Opening sentence: “The morning after my father’s funeral, I came home and found my husband in bed with the next-door neighbour.”
Quite the enticing opening sentence, wouldn’t you agree? Welcome to my stop on the Her Husband’s Mistake blog tour! Sheila O’Flanagan is an author I’ve seen on many shelves through the years, but hadn’t got round to reading. Until now!

There is a quote from Sheila herself in this edition that says, ‘I like to write about women, and I especially like to write about women who find their inner strength when they least expect it.’ This sums up the theme of Her Husband’s Mistake perfectly.
The book’s title refers to the scandalous episode in the opening sentence. Roxy married her childhood sweetheart Dave, they had two kids and lived a pretty standard – if uneventful – life in the Dublin suburbs. Then he cheated on her and threw everything into a spin. Should Roxy leave Dave? She’s torn between what she thinks is right and what she – deep down – really wants to do. Throw in the sub-plot of her blossoming chauffeur business, a handful of interesting clients and her growing independence and you have a warm, empowering story on your hands.
I found Sheila’s conversational writing style effortless to read, so I zipped through this book and Roxy was such a likeable character, I was totally invested in her and cheering her on the whole way.
